Key Functions 9/10

The Vizio SmartCast app allows you to not only browse and discover old or new movies, TV shows, and live streams but also helps you to perform various other functions in a faster and simpler manner. The app enables you to set-up your Vizio SmartCast compatible products from a remote location.

A simple voice search enables you to find your favorite entertainment by actor, artists, genre and much more. You can even organize your preferred entertainment in a better manner by queuing up your favorites and simple-to-set reminders.

The app also features simple controls that enable you to power off and power on devices, play and pause content, increase or decrease the volume besides performing various other functions many of which are not offered by a traditional remote.

Usability 8/10

The best aspect of Vizio SmartCast app in terms of its usability is that can work over internet and Wi-Fi. This means that you can use the app to cast your favorite entertainment to any SmartCast device located anywhere within your home network.

You can even use the app to cast your preferred entertainment to a different device or soundbar. Sadly, the app does not offer compatibility with all Vizio products, which is regarded as a usability drawback by many. However, it works perfectly fine with some of the selected SmartCast Vizio product, including TVs, Soundbars, and home theatre systems, which can go a long way in enhancing the scope and quality of your entertainment while also changing the way in which you enjoy it.

Cross Platform Use 9/10

The app works flawlessly on almost every Andriod and iOS device. However, the app is not compatible with Windows devices. It also helps you to consolidate your favorite entertainment from multiple apps at one place.

The Verdict

The Vizio SmartCast app helps you to turn your Smartphone or Tablet into a powerful touchscreen remote to control and manage your home entertainment system. The app provides a fascinating solution to ensure that you gain complete control over the operation and management of your SmartCast compatible products and preferred entertainment content. Create a custom list of your favorite shows or explore unique collections in a faster and simpler manner.
Vizio SmartCast App changes the way you watch and manage your entertainment across compatible devices.

  • Thanks for the review. I like the movie browser a lot, no need to use Google to look for the reviews now, it's all available in this app already. That's very neat. But for me, the wireless control is what this app does best. It really expands functions of your standard remote. And if you're not a movie lover you might download just Vizio Remote apk without the browser.

  • Nice to see a Smartcast Vizio review here. My old TV worked for 20 years before broke and I got myself a new one. I wasn't disappointed with my purchase, especially when a store associate told me about this app. Controlling my TV with a smartphone feels so sci-fi to me! I haven't tried anything else yet except this remote control function, but after reading this review now I see it has more useful features. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the review, Todd. This Vizio Smartcast app iOS really works flawlessly on my device (iPhone X). Incompatibility with Windows OS doesn't seem like an issue to me because everybody in my area uses mostly Android or iOS devices. I'm using this app mostly for its remote control feature, which really beats the one that comes with a TV. Though I use a movie browser not very often I do like it. Who would have thought that the search for movies by the name of the actor would be ever available on my TV? Using this app with Soundbars makes it almost perfect, though it doesn't work with some older devices.

  • My parents have been using the Smartcast app for a long time and the suggested me to try it out too. I'm not obsessed with watching TV shows at all and generally dont' have time for this, I prefer watching movies at theaters but I decided to give it a try. I have a VIZIO D 43" TV which I rarely use, I wasn't sure will it ever work with it. But after reading this Vizio Smartcast app review I found the answer. And I can use my phone as a TV remote! Thanks, Todd!

    • Vizio from D-series is a nice TV indeed. I had a lot of those and buying each one was always the right choice. I currently own Vizio D 55" Smart TV, it has every feature modern TV set should have, but it truly shines after you install Kodi on Vizio Smartcast. It really revamps everything you have from the box, but personally, I enjoy the streaming feature and DTS audio support. I would suggest to any Vizio owner trying it. Though installing it might be tricky but I assure you it will be worth your time.

  • Many thanks for this Smartcast review, Todd! I'm using it for a while, but I didn't know it's possible to read mail or browse the internet using it, quite handy! I also love that I can still watch TV shows and play PS4 simultaneous. So basically, this app works like a compilation of smaller tools like a swiss knife.

    • Hi, Jack. I'm also using the Smartcast app along with my PS4, pretty handy. Watching TV shows and listening to music saves me from boring matches in Rainbow Six Siege sometimes :D I'm glad this review mentioned that Smartcast allows making playlists, I have plenty of them for various situations. I have it installed both on my Samsung Tablet and iPhone. Too bad the Windows-compatible version doesn't exist, I could connect it to my old PC then.
